I read this section of the paper everyday and a lot of the people are just griping. I'm just wondering when people are going to be thankful for what they already have. A lot of other countries have it a lot worse than we do.
This is for the person whose neighbor's cats are killing all the songbirds: You don't have to shoot or poison them. You can get a trap fairly inexpensively and trap the cats and call animal control and they'll come pick them up.
To the person who is going to start shooting or poisoning cats because they killed a bird: Did you personally see them kill the birds? Sounds like a mental case to me. I think you have already tried dumping them at the river to starve.
This is in response to the person having a problem with cats: That is a valid problem many people have. There's plenty of valid solutions to the problem -- like using a water hose to train the cats to stay off of your property.
I have lived in Shawnee all my life and never have I been more ashamed of some of the folks who live here than right now. OK, so you have a problem. Cats are killing birds. Since the beginning of time cats have killed birds -- remember Tweety and Sylvester? Granny used a number of methods for getting Sylvester to leave Tweety alone, none of which was poisoning or shooting that cat. Grow up! Think like an adult. Look for humane solutions to your problem, instead of thinking only of violence. What are we teaching our children -- that's it's OK to kills animals? Well, it's not!
